Summary

SACAT is the University of Lleida node of the coordinated project REACTANT (RevEaling wAter and soil status and quality: ConTAmination and bioavailabiliTy). It combines two complementary speciation techniques – Absence of Gradients and Nernstian Equilibrium Stripping (AGNES) and Diffusive Gradients in Thin Films (DGT) – with theoretical modelling to determine the speciation and availability of trace metals, phosphorus and other contaminants and nutrients in natural waters and soils.

Approach

The project develops and applies AGNES for equilibrium metal speciation and DGT for dynamic speciation and monitoring, in both natural waters and soils, and combines the experimental results with theoretical modelling of the underlying transport and reaction processes. Work is coordinated with the partner node at the Universitat de Girona.
